Sandy Shores

Sunday, March 29, 2026

Hello, fellow beach lovers! Sandy Shores here, bringing you the latest scoop from our beautiful Gulf coast. What a gorgeous week we have ahead, with temperatures hovering in the high 70s and low 80s, and a lovely easterly breeze at 13 mph. It feels absolutely perfect for a beach day! We do have some light drizzle and moderate rain chances popping up from Sunday through Thursday, so I've picked some spots where you can make the most of the clear skies, and still have a wonderful time even if a few drops fall.

Lowdermilk Park

What makes it special right now: With today's partly cloudy skies and a comfortable 75°F (feels like 76°F), Lowdermilk Park is absolutely shining! The gentle easterly breeze makes it feel even more refreshing. This beach is a fantastic all-rounder, and with the slight chance of drizzle later in the week, its amenities like restrooms, concession stand, and picnic tables offer a bit of shelter if needed. It's also a prime spot for spotting dolphins playing in the distance or finding some beautiful shells, especially after a high tide. The calm waters here are perfect for a swim before the rain chances increase.

Detailed parking information: Lowdermilk Park has a large, dedicated parking lot right at the beach. Parking costs $3.00 per hour, payable at kiosks that accept credit cards or cash. Naples residents with a beach parking sticker park for free – a great perk if you've got one! To secure a good spot, especially on a beautiful day like today or over the weekend, I'd recommend arriving by 9:30 AM. It fills up quickly, particularly the spots closest to the playground and concessions.

What to bring: This is a full-service beach, so you can travel a bit lighter! Definitely bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, and a good book. Chairs and an umbrella are always a good idea for comfort. For the kids (or grandkids!), bring sand toys – there's a fantastic playground right on the sand. Water shoes aren't strictly necessary for swimming but can be nice if you're exploring for shells near the waterline. Don't forget some cash or a credit card for parking and perhaps a treat from the concession stand!

Best time of day to visit: Early morning (before 10 AM) or late afternoon (after 3 PM) are ideal to beat the crowds and enjoy the cooler temperatures. With today's UV index at 7, midday sun can be intense. The late afternoon also offers absolutely stunning sunset views over the Gulf.

Any current advisories, closures, or conditions to know about: No current advisories or closures. Water quality is typically excellent here. Keep an eye on the sky later in the week – Sunday and Monday show a 25-21% chance of light to moderate rain, so plan your visit accordingly. Today and tomorrow morning look clear and beautiful!

Best For: Families, couples, swimming, sunset watching, easy access, amenities.

Clam Pass Park

What makes it special right now: Clam Pass offers a unique beach experience, and with the gentle easterly wind, the tram ride through the mangroves will be especially pleasant. The slight chance of drizzle later in the week (25% on Sunday, 21% on Monday) makes the shaded boardwalk and mangrove tunnels even more appealing. The calm, shallow waters at the pass are perfect for wading and spotting small fish, and the shelling can be quite good along the sandbars, especially at low tide. The natural beauty here is amplified by the comfortable 75°F weather we're enjoying today.

Detailed parking information: Parking is available at the main Clam Pass Park lot. The cost is $10 for the day, payable at the entrance booth (cash or credit card). Again, Naples residents with a beach parking sticker park for free. There's a free tram that takes you from the parking lot along a scenic boardwalk through the mangroves to the beach, which is part of the charm! To avoid waiting for the tram, aim to arrive before 10 AM, especially on weekends. You can also enjoy the beautiful 3/4-mile walk if you prefer.

What to bring: Sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water are a must for the walk or tram ride. Bring your beach chairs, umbrella, and a cooler. Water shoes are highly recommended here, especially if you plan to explore the pass for shells or wade in the shallow areas, as there can be some small shells and rocks. Binoculars are great for birdwatching along the boardwalk!

Best time of day to visit: Mornings are fantastic for birdwatching and enjoying the tranquility before the crowds arrive. If you're looking to shell, check the tide charts for low tide. The beach is lovely all day, but the tram can get busy around lunchtime.

Any current advisories, closures, or conditions to know about: No current closures. The tram runs continuously, but service may be suspended during lightning or heavy rain, so keep an eye on those rain chances for Sunday and Monday. The water in the pass is typically very calm and clear.

Best For: Nature lovers, families with younger children, shelling, birdwatching, unique beach access.

Beach Tip of the Week:

With our lovely partly cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures, it's easy to forget about sun protection! Even on a cloudy day, UV rays can be strong. This week, with a UV index of 7 today, remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming. And don't forget your lips and ears! A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are your best friends for enjoying our beautiful beaches safely. Stay hydrated, too – the gentle breeze can be deceiving!
